[Whenever Rokurou gets back from his trip out of town he'll notice that the crystal Velvet statue is gone, though remains of the remade shrine still exist. She isn't the only thing that's gone as well. Many of his swords (mostly the ones of lesser quality) have also disappeared and his extra sword storage room has been cleared out entirely, though some did end up in the one he'd already taken over. The crew is rushing about, skittish of their captain's recent mood and keeping themselves busy while staying out of her way.
One of the pirates will point Rokurou towards a cabin which had belonged to one of the few people who had a place on the ship. Then he'll press a bottle of the recent addition of apple cider into the swordsman's hands before darting away.
If he's stupid brave enough to go - inside the room, Rokurou will find Velvet sitting on the bed with an empty bottle of apple in hand. She stares out the window without acknowledging the other daemon's presence. The room feels a lot like Titania, a sense of Malevolence filling the small space all of it generating from the Lord of Calamity.]
[Assuming shit didn't blow up in Brinndosi, Rokurou will have returned from the trip feeling... Well. It was certainly one of the more emotionally exhausting excursions he's ever been on, one that he'd rather not have a repeat of. Fortunately he didn't suffer as badly as others did, but still. Being reminded of his past fears, even if just in passing, is not something he wants to do again. On the plus side, now that he's had a taste of such a situation, he can go in better prepared the next time. Plus he still had the opportunity to fight a lot of things and get into random shenanigans, so it came out all right.
In any case, no matter what happens once he returns to the Van Airtia the first thing he'll do is check how their crystal captain is doing. He had felt a little bad leaving Velvet behind, what with his duty and debt and all, but the time spent with the crew had allowed him to deem them trustworthy. Plus she's on an airhsip. Unless they got attacked in the air they should be fine. But even as he moves through the airship he notices the odd behavior from the crew. He's puzzled, but every time he makes eye contact, they just look away and scurry off before he can say anything. And when he tries, they just pale and run away loudly muttering that they had to do something.
Okay. Weird.
So when he goes to personally check, he's surprised to see her missing. At first he wonders if she was moved, but then he notices the broken pieces of crystal and...what looks like the remains of a shrine.
Wait. He thought he cleaned all this up? What the hell—oh no.
There are few things that the daemon swordsman fears these days, but as he goes through the halls and approaches a particular room, a trail of dread ghosts behind, a black mist swirling as his hand opens the door...
Where did his swords go.
A cold chill forms as he stares into the empty room. Okay, maybe he shouldn't be so surprised, BUT COME ON. Don't take out your bad mood on his swords, Velvet!! Especially since he's not exactly in the best of moods to deal with this kind of thing. At least his original sword room is still intact and he can see she had moved the better swords in there. The third room he immediately checks is the one where they had been dubbed as the "Apple Room" and—phew, okay. The kegs are still there. he almost wants to get his own drink after suffering the loss of his swords, but if he's to find Velvet, he should probably do this sober.
Probably.
As he heads back up to the main deck, he now understands the skittish looks and glances the crew had given him when he first arrived. They clearly had known what had happened and no one had the courage to tell him before he found out on his own. Everyone knows how much he loved his swords and that he is just as crazy and dangerous a daemon as Velvet. Who would want to tell him that a bunch of his swords are gone?
That said, as frustrating as it is, there's clearly something going on. This is confirmed the moment he is finally able to ask where Velvet is and he's handed the bottle and given directions. Heading over, he doesn't even have to open the door to feel that malevolence growing. It's no wonder everyone is keeping away, and a truly sane person would just leave her be.
But this is Rokurou. He knows how Velvet can be and he really is probably one of the few on hand stupid brave enough to deal with her. So he opens the door and leans against the door frame, arms crossed over his chest with the bottle tucked under his elbow. He notes her countenance and the empty bottle in her own hand, something he finds peculiar but telling.]
So. Are you always like this when you come out of crystals?
[He knows she's in Sync's room, but he's actually unaware that the replica is no longer around. Hell, he doesn't even know much about Sync, so he doesn't know what awaits the kid. Thus he is wondering why she's brooding here of all places, and he can only assume that something happened. Just not sure what.]
[ Delivered to one daemon by means that shall be handwaved and left vague is a slightly crumpled envelope with the daemon's name scribbled across the front of it. Inside, the daemon shall find a letter on unlined paper with the following written in pencil: ]
It's me, Trunks. I don't really know how to start this letter because I don't really write many anyways but since I don't know what will happen to you or if I'll be allowed to see you anytime soon, I thought I would write this. (( ooc: you can have rokurou receive this letter whenever and wherever. o/ ))
[For better or worse, given his injuries his incarceration is currently at the hospital, laid up in bandages and unable to move much. Well, he could but it probably wouldn't be the smartest thing to do. With one arm broken, he has to use his other (mostly) usable hand and teeth to open the envelope before he manages to pull out the letter. And when he reads it...
Ah ha ha...damn.]
This kid... [There's just a rueful grin before he stares up at the ceiling.] Say "sorry," huh?
[It would be a lie to say that he didn't feel a little bad about what went down, but it would also be a lie to say that he felt real guilt or regret over it. He had known the consequences and had accepted it all before going in. So rather than feel guilt about helping Velvet, the only thing he actually felt bad about was making Trunks, Emizel, and a few others feel this way. He knew it would happen, but as indifferent as he is about a lot of things, he's not completely heartless. And as it apparently turns out, he's not as wholly indifferent about what people thought about him as he thought he was—or at least used to be.
Funny how living in a world that didn't care at all about him being a daemon could do that.
So he just holds up the letter and stares at the words for several long moments, wondering what he should do or even respond. Although he could probably leave it and not say anything, the fact that Trunks wrote this... No, he should write something back. He owed the kid that much.
But what? And kind of more importantly, how. He may have the use of one arm still, but uh. Still tough to really write anything—
Wait, he still has his amulet. WELL THEN. Trunks may feel a small little nudge through the crystal brainwaves.]
Hey, Trunks. Got your letter. I'd write back, but kind of can't right now.
[Wherever Rokurou may be, a metal bird swoops by and drops a box on his head. Inside is a plushie of a familiar robot bunny and a note attached to it:]
Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. He can add this to his oddly growing collection of random toys and trinkets he's been given lately.
Not long after, he'll send Ion a message through the crystals.]
Hey, Ion, got your "gift." Don't worry, it won't happen again. [Hopefully.] Sorry about all that. [Did he apologize back there? Maybe to Zero (and probably shouted out something drunkenly before he was kicked out), but better to apologize again just in case ah ha ha ha ha.]
[ So for all the times he's been bothering her, Rokurou probably never expected Velvet to call him up. ]
Sync has returned with his memories intact. He'll be staying on the ship with his wyvern for a while.
[ Considering she got exactly what she wanted with attacking Sosyne, the therion moves on pretty quickly. ]
Also, I've decided what I want my next blade to be. It's made of light and can seemingly slice through anything with ease. When it makes contact with an opponent, it's as if the blade itself is straight out of a fire - cauterizing any wound it makes instantly.
[He is indeed surprised by Velvet calling him up, and since he's finally off bedrest, she catches him while he's in the middle of stretching. It's a shame she can't see him because he is in a very comical pose right now.]
A sword made of light? That's not possib—
[WAIT WAIT NO THAT'S NOT WHAT HE SHOULD BE FOCUSING ON (though no surprise he did comment on the sword part first).]
[Merry Christmas Rokurou! Careful not to trip over the festively traditional gift box waiting for you outside. It's wrapped up neatly with pretty cool paper and a silver bow on top.
Inside the box he'll find a scarf which should come in extra handy keeping warm if he starts anymore snowball fights with anyone. There's also a few cookies all tied up neatly in a little cloth sack which hopefully he'll get a kick out of.
Last of all is a message at the bottom of the box. One side is the recipe she used for the cookies, the other is a short note from Farah.]
[He will laugh at the note and get a kick out of the cookies. Will definitely be enjoying those...and may or may not share a little of it with his deino and chocobo partners (because they're not pets....). Although whether he should actually try baking..........
He'll send her a note of thanks later that day and will be looking forward to those spars!]
[Naruhodou had to think about it, but he decides he'll give Rokurou something for Christmas. It's not much, but he'll get a black scarf and some tea leaves wrapped inside a furoshiki. There will be a card attached to the gift.]
I'm not sure if I really trust you, but you did help me out in the desert. These are green tea leaves with a hint of peppermint to them. They'll give you a nice pick me up when you're feeling tired. Have a Merry Christmas! ~ Naruhodou
[The fact that Naruhodou sent him something despite being uncertain on whether to trust him amuses him. But oooh, scarf! Time to add to the slowly growing collection. He's not the biggest tea person, but it has peppermint! He will be sure to enjoy it on those long, cold winter nights when he's just chilling around not doing anything.
He'll send his word of thanks later that day because he's surprisingly good mannered like that.]
[ Let the chest wars begin. At the time Minato sent this out, he had absolutely no idea what Rokurou has for him...but it seems that the chest he got him matches the theme ongoing between them. There's no note attached as he doesn't believe that's necessary. Still, he's really looking forward to meeting Rokurou after holidays. ]
[...Minato what in the hell—is his first thought before he busts out laughing. Wow. That's just. Wow. Oh man, this is hilarious. He'll have to contemplate what the hell he's going to do with it (either stuffed in a closest to be forgotten and found later on for comedy or passed on to one of the airship crewmates). In the meantime, he's sending Minato a message:]
Got your present. Hope Maki didn't seen you with it.
... Hey, listen, I've been thinking a lot since you went inside me last time. You didn't really give me any warning and before I knew it everything just happened. But... Well, what I'm trying to say is I think I want you to try it again. I've done some thinking and I'm ready for you and what will come this time.
[ The last time Giru had been here had been with Trunks.
This time, he comes alone in search of the daemon.
The time it takes him to locate the daemon aboard the airship isn't that long and when he discovers where Rokurou is, he quietly peers from around a door with soft dee's being heard to alert his presence here. Giru is still... unsure about Rokurou considering the last time they had seen each other prior to Trunks' death had been... not so great... the daemon trying to kill him when Giru had thought they were friends. But Trunks had explained that something must have been wrong with him, though Giru still remains wary as he hides there behind the door, gently peering at the daemon.
He wants to talk to him, to see him and make sure he's ok but... he's scared that he might get smacked again and as much as he's willing to fight if he needs to, he doesn't want to lose anymore friends. ]
[It had been about a week since the Gem fight, and only about a day or two since he returned back onto the airship after isolating himself to let his malevolence stabilize, but he was still on bedrest due to the extent of his injuries. They've been healing, but ugh.
Man.
He really wants to stand up and move around, to train again. Maybe he could try later today...
And then he hears a familiar little dee dee dee just outside his door. Blinking in surprise he looks up and can see a little bit of Giru peeking through the door. Knowing when the last time he's seen him...
With a small, wry grin he raises a hand as a small wave.]
Hey, Giru. Come to pay a visit?
[He's wondering if it's only Giru or if he has some news, but he won't rush the little robot.]
[Well maybe not barge... He does happen to be dropping by, maybe ask if she wants to have dinner together or something not a date (ssssh just because they have telepathic communication doesn't mean he has to use it), and just as he's about to knock on her door, he pauses when he thinks he hears something. Leaning in a little closer, he definitely hears what sounds like a sob.
Now alarmed, he calls out from outside first.]
Serah?
[After testing the door, he quickly opens it and upon seeing her so visibly upset, he feels like an anchor of dread suddenly drop into the pit of his stomach. In just a few long strides he's immediately at her side.]
Hey, what happened?
[He is trying very hard to be calm, but he's already starting to feel ripples of unease.
[So. Not telling your not-girlfriend your birthday is "in a couple days" and not giving enough time for a party is uncool.
So since she can't do that, she does the next worstbest thing: somehow make off with Stormquell when he's not looking. How? Don't ask, Ninja Serah Magicks is how. Did she collaborate with Eizen? Did she work alone? She won't tell, but in it's place when he goes to retrieve it, is a note:]
[Where she's hidden it is under where the alcohol is stored on the ship (under the shelves, so it's visible) with a bottle of rum next to it with a separate note that reads "To make up for the little bit I dumped down the sink" and his sword.
...with a new addition attached to the top of the hilt in true Kingdom Hearts style (the red and black one, to really match him.) This seems to be imbued with something, either through dunamis or just the power of ~love~ but it feels warm, inviting, and full of love. A note under in Serah's writing will maybe explain though!]
But with this coming in after the whole thing with Shigure oh man he is not sure how to feel. It's torn between outright yelling her name a la Ricky Ricardo style or actually being amused that she managed to do this.
She should be so glad he loves likes her so much that it ends up being......somewhat the latter. After all, it's a bold move to take Kurogane like that.
So he'll go off on this little "scavenger hunt," scouring through the airship to find his partner. He half considered the whole "not in someone else's room" thing is a trick, but since it's Serah... He'll trust it for now. After going through various rooms and cornering any crewmates that might have seen her, he eventually finds his beloved favored sword. To be fair to her, this is actually fairly clever and kind of cute with the rum. That little accessory however... It gets a bit of a look before he chuckles, keeping it on there. All right, fine. Hard to ignore that power of ~love~ emanating from it. And it's admittedly kind of sweet.
Anyway.
She may have ran away from the scene of the crime, but he has plenty of daytime left to find her, using Arian to travel. He goes to her apartment first, not actually expecting her there, but never know. As expected, she's not, and he even uses the spare key she had given him to check inside just in case. He actually considers just waiting her out, but that might take a while. She can be quite stubborn and that's just boring. Now, he could look around town, but he has a very strong feeling that she won't be in any of those places.
No, the next location he immediately heads to is a place he had taken her once before and where he himself had sought refuge until she found him during Gem's attack—the flower fields outside of town.]
[ Oh yeah. He sure knows what day it is here in this strange new world he's found himself in for a little over a couple weeks now and with how things have been going SO SWIMMINGLY BETWEEN THEM AS OF LATE, of course he would come and pay his little brother a visit on his birthday.
Morgrim, of course, had asked if this was such a good idea since Shigure was coming over unannounced and without a fuckin' care in the world if Rokurou had his lady friend there with him. Might just make things more interesting as far as he was concerned because he absolutely would just flop himself down between them and introduce himself like the fuckin' gentleman that he is. So, naturally, he waved Morgrim off with a grin and assured her that YEAH THIS IS PERFECTLY FINE, though the malak seemed to clearly sure Jan him before they headed off.
So, here he is, making his way across this grand ol' ship and not being stopped or stared at so that's good. Not that anyone could really stop him from seeing (or talking to you silly blond malak) his little bro, so, it's for the best really. Plus, just makes his arrival all the more of a SURPRISE for baby bro, just like the day he first arrived here. Ah, memories.
It's a little early in the morning but, knowing Rokurou, he's probably already up so, damn, but it's fine. He can still make a grand entrance and shower his little bro in the much needed attention he deserves on this special day.
And by deserves, that totally means him being an obnoxious older brother to him, ready to deliver some birthday beats. RANGETSUS!
So, coming up to the youngest Rangetsu's cabin door and waiting a long moment to listen for movement in there, he gives a thumbs up to Morgrim who just looks at him with that "don't bring me into this" sort of look which just makes Shigure chuckle some before
leg raised
foot stretched out
WHAM!!! goes the door being kicked open with good ol' fashioned brute force (didn't knock it off the hinges so!!!) and a balloon filled with both water and flecks of multi-coloured confetti is thrown at Rokurou WHEREVER HE MAY BE with a loud laugh and a ]
[Rokurou had already been up and had his usual morning training, so he had just gotten out of the shower and was in the middle his room, toweling off his hair when SUDDENLY HIS DOOR IS KICKED OPEN AND A WATER BALLOON SMASHES INTO HIM.
Well. He at least was still wearing his towel around his lower half. Not that it mattered.
So he's just. Going to stand there, once again sopping wet, his face hidden by the shadow of the towel over his head before steam seems to slowly rise up around him, until—]
[The thing about Rokurou is that he already knows what Serah's feeling of heartbreak probably feels like by now. It's not cold this time, and for as much as she's not trying to let the grief hit him like a truck, it's seeping in when she contacts him.]
[It doesn't matter what he's doing. Both that chilling feeling and her words makes him drop it all and start moving.]
On my way.
[He can wait to ask the pressing questions later. Right now he needs to get to her as fast as he can, and thankfully he has Arian nearby. So even if it doesn't take him too long to race over to her, it likely feels too slow for the both of them.
Once he arrives, he doesn't even wait for the chocobo to come to a full halt before he's sliding out of the saddle and rushing to the door, calling out to her. The whole time he tried not to think of the worst, but with each step, unease slowly begins to build.]
[Heeey baby heeeeeeeeeeey. Roku's going to find a nice gift, only marked with a pink pawprint, a pink heart, and a "Merry Christmas" so he knows who it's from.
The note is attached to an ornate rectangular box, which houses a black and red katana with the emblem and pattern of the higanbana, their flower. If he had any doubts on who had given him the sword, the flower should say it all. ♥]
After staring at the splendid blade in awe, he is bolting out to find her. HE DOESN'T EVEN HAVE TO THINK TOO HARD he's just going to naturally know where she is.]
[ because he heard about this dumb holiday about friendship and magic and all that jazz, he decided to get Rokurou something. Clearly it'll be the best thing he ever got in the history of the world BECAUSE!!!!
it was a big. 700 pages. Single spaced. tiny 10 size font. All about the history of swords in Verens. He might have found it at Swordcon this year and was planning on giving it to Rokurou at some point. So now it's wrapped up ... terribly with lots and lots of tape because the tape got stuck to him while wrapping. ]
[First of all, wow. What is this wrapping job. How could you be this bad at wrapping.
When he finally gets through all the tape, Rokurou just kind of stares at the massive tome. At first he thinks this is a stupid joke gift and is prepared to find Eizen and chuck it at him. He's okay with reading, but not like this!!!
But then he actually reads the title...and gets super excited. A book that would actually excite the war daemon!? If it's about swords, then yes. Yes it is. So he'll actually stay in his room a bit to eagerly flip through the pages to read it.
[A messenger bird has dropped off a badly wrapped gift box. You know those headbands of an apple with an arrow through it? This is like that, except it's a sword that's stabbed through this fake apple. Two swords, even.
'Merry Christmas. Still looking for that rematch. -Jecht']

delivery; letter to rokurou WHEREVER HE IS after plot
It's me, Trunks.
I don't really know how to start this letter because I don't really
write many anyways but since I don't know what will happen to you
or if I'll be allowed to see you anytime soon, I thought I would write this.
You know
I thought we were friends.
Friends tell each other things, especially when they need help.
And even if I wasn't able to help you because I don't agree with it
or think that it's right, you still could have told me.

Don't you care about that?
You'll probably say "no because I'm a daemon and I'm bad."
But I think that's stupid.
I think you careI know you care. You know why?
Because someone who doesn't care doesn't buy a person their very first sword
or take them to lunch or spend time with them if they really don't like them
or are a really bad person or don't care.
That's not how people who don't care are.
And also you didn't try to kill me.
So I want to know why you did that.
I'm a little mad but I don't hate you or never want to be your friend again
because friends can get mad at each other and still be friends even if they
don't agree all the time.
But I just don't understand and I think that sometimes adults just
complicate things and make them more difficult than they should be.
I hope you'll be ok and I hope people can forgive you for this
but a lot of people were hurt and some died and so I don't know
if that can really be possible for a lot of people.
I don't know if saying sorry can really help.
People say that actions speak louder than words
and I guess that happens here, right?
I wish you didn't do this because I don't want people to hate you
when I know that you can be a pretty good guy.
I'll still be your friend.

Hey, Trunks. Got your letter. I'd write back, but kind of can't right now.

Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. He can add this to his oddly growing collection of random toys and trinkets he's been given lately.

Hey, Ion, got your "gift." Don't worry, it won't happen again. [Hopefully.] Sorry about all that. [Did he apologize back there? Maybe to Zero (and probably shouted out something drunkenly before he was kicked out), but better to apologize again just in case ah ha ha ha ha.]

voice; shortly after new arrival day
Sync has returned with his memories intact.

A sword made of light? That's not possib—
[WAIT WAIT NO THAT'S NOT WHAT HE SHOULD BE FOCUSING ON (though no surprise he did comment on the sword part first).]
Wait, hold on—did you say Sync came back?

Inside the box he'll find a scarf which should come in extra handy keeping warm if he starts anymore snowball fights with anyone. There's also a few cookies all tied up neatly in a little cloth sack which hopefully he'll get a kick out of.

after gem things;
no subject

7/22 for his birthday HE DIDN'T TELL HER ABOUT UNTIL IT WAS ALMOST TOO LATE
So since she can't do that, she does the next
worstbest thing: somehow make off with Stormquell when he's not looking. How? Don't ask, Ninja Serah Magicks is how. Did she collaborate with Eizen? Did she work alone? She won't tell, but in it's place when he goes to retrieve it, is a note:]🌺𝐻𝑒𝓎 𝑅𝑜𝓀𝓊𝓇𝑜𝓊,

[He won't find her on the ship though, she's long gone.]
HE DIDN'T THINK IT IMPORTANT OKAY AND PRETTY MUCH FORGOT ABOUT IT!!!!!
But with this coming in after the whole thing with Shigure oh man he is not sure how to feel. It's torn between outright yelling her name a la Ricky Ricardo style or actually being amused that she managed to do this.
She should be so glad he
loveslikes her so much that it ends up being......somewhat the latter. After all, it's a bold move to take Kurogane like that.So he'll go off on this little "scavenger hunt," scouring through the airship to find his partner. He half considered the whole "not in someone else's room" thing is a trick, but since it's Serah... He'll trust it for now. After going through various rooms and cornering any crewmates that might have seen her, he eventually finds his
belovedfavored sword. To be fair to her, this is actually fairly clever and kind of cute with the rum. That little accessory however... It gets a bit of a look before he chuckles, keeping it on there. All right, fine. Hard to ignore that power of ~love~ emanating from it. And it's admittedly kind of sweet.Anyway.
No, the next location he immediately heads to is a place he had taken her once before and where he himself had sought refuge until she found him during Gem's attack—the flower fields outside of town.]

action; birthday
RANGETSUS!
So, coming up to the youngest Rangetsu's cabin door and waiting a long moment to listen for movement in there, he gives a thumbs up to Morgrim who just looks at him with that "don't bring me into this" sort of look which just makes Shigure chuckle some before
leg raised

[He can wait to ask the pressing questions later. Right now he needs to get to her as fast as he can, and thankfully he has Arian nearby. So even if it doesn't take him too long to race over to her, it likely feels too slow for the both of them.
Once he arrives, he doesn't even wait for the chocobo to come to a full halt before he's sliding out of the saddle and rushing to the door, calling out to her. The whole time he tried not to think of the worst, but with each step, unease slowly begins to build.]

it was a big. 700 pages. Single spaced. tiny 10 size font. All about the history of swords in Verens. He might have found it at Swordcon this year and was planning on giving it to Rokurou at some point. So now it's wrapped up ... terribly with lots and lots of tape because the tape got stuck to him while wrapping. ]
no subject
When he finally gets through all the tape, Rokurou just kind of stares at the massive tome. At first he thinks this is a stupid joke gift and is prepared to find Eizen and chuck it at him. He's okay with reading, but not like this!!!
But then he actually reads the title...and gets super excited. A book that would actually excite the war daemon!? If it's about swords, then yes. Yes it is. So he'll actually stay in his room a bit to eagerly flip through the pages to read it.
